PHOTOGRAPHY & WOODTURNING.
Ted picked up his first camera when he was in high school. Originally a portrait and wedding photographer, Ted now creates images covering a wide variety of genres. Landscapes and old buildings. Sunrises and sunsets. Live flowers and dead trees. Old rusty cars and bird portraits. Lighthouses and waterfalls. Plus styles like ICM and In The Round. Whatever suits him at the moment. Many times Ted's edits are strait forward, But other times they are whimsical or painterly. Ted enjoys going on photography adventures. But he also loves to teach others about the photographic process.
As far back as Ted can remember he cut and split wood with his dad and his brother. That repetitive process taught Ted about visualizing what is inside a log. "I see woodturning as a subtractive process in which all of the material and form for the end product is already present inside the tree. The turner then, transforms an ordinary log into something new and different by taking away everything that is not needed and leaving the rest. It is after this circular sculpting that the patterns of rings, knots, heart wood, sapwood, bark and defects are exposed and become designs that are visually pleasing."
